چکیده

Neoclassical growth models are essentially characterized by the formation of a steady state where the main economic aggregates (capital, output, consumption and investment) do not grow, unless some external event takes place (e.g., technological progress or population growth). Hence, the long term result corresponds to a fixed point and any kind of endogenous fluctuations is ruled out. This paper introduces an inefficiency mechanism through which non perfect firms’ expectations about future demand conduct to underinvestment, which originates periodic and a-periodic long run cycles; this mechanism is applied over the simplest neoclassical growth model, the Solow equation regarding capital accumulation. Results, containing a large variety of dynamic features, are discussed through the analysis of local bifurcations and through numerical examples that give insights about global dynamics. c © 2006 Peking University Press

Complex Dynamics in a Growth Model with Corruption in Public Procurement

We study the relationship between corruption in public procurement and economic growthwithin the Solow framework in discrete time, while assuming that the public good is an input in the productive process and that the State fixes a monitoring level on corruption. The resulting model is a bidimensional triangular dynamic system able to generate endogenous fluctuations for certain values of some ...

Normal forms of Hopf Singularities: Focus Values Along with some Applications in Physics

This paper aims to introduce the original ideas of normal form theory and bifurcation analysis and control of small amplitude limit cycles in a non-technical terms so that it would be comprehensible to wide ranges of Persian speaking engineers and physicists. The history of normal form goes back to more than one hundreds ago, that is to the original ideas coming from Henry Poincare. This tool p...

The Effects of Oil Price Shocks on Transitional Dynamics of Business Cycles in Iran: Markov Switching Model with Time Varying Transition Probabilities (MS-TVTP)

The business cycles are one of the most important economic indicators that they show the changes in economic activities during time. The study of business cycles is important because the understanding fluctuations in GDP and effective factors on these fluctuations help policy makers to plan better and more efficient. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of oil price shoc...

Business Cycles, Bifurcations and Chaos in a Neo-Classical Model with Investment Dynamics

This paper is motivated by the rising interest in assessing the effect of disruptions in resources and environmental conditions on economic growth. Such an assessment requires, ultimately, the use of truly integrated models of the climate and economic systems. For these purposes, we have developed a Non-Equilibrium Dynamic Model (NEDyM) by introducing investment dynamics and nonequilibrium effe...

AS-AD in the Standard Dynamic Neoclassical Model: Business Cycles and Growth Trends

The paper shows how a dynamic neoclassical AS-AD can be derived and used to describe business cycles and growth trends to undergraduates. Derived within the Ramsey-Cass-Koopmans (RCK) model, the AS-AD is the stationary equilibrium of the deterministic dynamic general equilibrium framework. Allowing Solow exogenous growth, the AS-AD is derived along the balanced growth path equilibrium. The deri...
